Europe Cycling and E-Bikes

Europe has a whole infrastructure geared to safe and pleasurable cycling, so why are we so far behind? Plus there are still some major issues and misconceptions about electric assisted bikes, so I'm going to attempt to clear them up...

Are you scared to cycle in Britain?

Cycling around the GB coast has introduced me to people from many different backgrounds, and when I ask why they don't cycle more, the answer is the same - because they are scared.

Countries like Northern Italy, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia opened my eyes to a culture that welcomed cyclists, and when I returned home I always felt that same fear - most drivers hate me.

Cycling in Europe

Just recently a trip further north in Europe showed me that the problem is not difficult to solve.

With dilemma and controversy surrounding cars being powered by massive electric batteries and fossil fuels, given the right environment for cycling, a global sustainable change could happen.

Can we do it in UK?

Whoever you voted for, we now have an elected government, and with that we have a great opportunity to make lasting change.

In Northern Europe as soon as kids can walk it seems they are encouraged to cycle, and I saw people into their 90s getting around on bikes. With safety like this in place, I can see a future where Oliver Montague's vision could come true.

Oliver Montague is Co-Founder and CEO of Swytch.

“Our job as innovators is to make environmentally friendly technology that people want to use because it’s cool! That way, a global change to a more sustainable way of life will happen naturally”

In October 2021 I wrote about the electric assistance Swytch bike system. Since then the technology has made huge steps forward, plus the mood about e-bikes has changed somewhat too.

Turn your bike into an eBike with the Swytch Kit

For me to carry on doing what I want to on a bike I had to change something, so I Swytched my bike, and I love it.

The Swytch bike gives me more control, because I get more flexibility and freedom. I was beginning to struggle on the hills, and now I don't think about them.

If I want a workout I still get it by using one of the lower power options, and whilst I'm riding on the flat I don't use the power at all, so I'm getting the same cycling experience I always have.

If you want more assistance you can have it, and you keep the joy of cycling your own bike, which is light and has the flexibility of many gears.

Dmitro Khroma, Co-Founder, CTO Swytch

Our new improved Swytch kit is a game-changer. It’s going to totally disrupt the eBike industry because it’s so much lighter, smaller and more affordable than anything else out there

The Swytch Kit comes complete with everything you need to convert your bike electric. Once fitted, just start pedalling and the power kicks in!

I have 3 bikes at home that have been Swytched, plus I have ordered 2 more new kits, arriving soon that I'm fitting for other cyclists.

If you want to know more about the Swytch system, or you would like help Swytching your bike, just contact me. I would love to help any way I can.
